Truth Team Letter #2/2018

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7

Christ works in us and enables us to carry out His work. This is a GIFT! In Colossians it talks about ‘receiving’ Christ, this includes forgiveness of your sins through His death and resurrection and your acceptance as a child of God. This verse also speaks of being ‘rooted and built up’ in Him, which refers to living each day bearing fruit for Christ and abiding in his Spirit. Don’t limit yourself to thinking that saying a prayer and asking for forgiveness is what Faith is all about. It’s much bigger than that. It is putting our confidence and assurance in Christ and allowing Him to take complete control of our lives. In doing so, we can partake in His amazing power and experience His Love each day.

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

Two important truths are highlighted in this verse. First, to surrender yourself to God is merely to learn from him. Take on His characteristics- His humility, kindness, and patience. Secondly, if you pursue these qualities with all your heart, then you will be prepared to give up all that you are, and all that this world has to offer. This is where the PROCESS comes into play.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” Hebrews 12:1-2

This life is a race. The goal is to keep our eyes fixed on Christ each, and every day. To throw off anything that can hinder you from a strong faith and relationship with Christ. Not just sin. It could mean a lack of joy, a depressed spirit, or resentment for another. Whatever it is, get rid of it in order to keep pursuing Christ with your full heart, full soul, and full mind. Are you ready to take that risk? To give up worldly pleasures, possessions, and pursuits to follow Christ with your all. Jesus is the champion, initiator, pioneer and perfecter of our faith, trust that He will guide and direct your steps and fulfill His promises over your life. I have included a prayer by John Wesley that shows a complete trust in the process and a faith that is fully surrendered to Christ.

“I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things
to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.” – John Wesley

Keep standing firm in your faith remembering always the GIFT and the PROCESS that are ours to embrace!
