With our new life in Jesus, comes a new identity as a follower of Jesus. ‘Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to be called children of God.’ (John 1:12) Jesus provided the way and the means for us to be grafted into the family of God. How awesome is that? Being a child of God, however; brings with it new desires, passions and responsibilities. One of those new desires, passions and responsibilities is to ‘declare the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.’ We do that by accepting our role as one of God’s priests.
‘You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.’ (I Peter 2:9)
You don’t have to go to Bible college, or understand Greek and Latin, to be one of God’s royal priests. If you have decided to deny yourself, pick up your cross daily and follow Jesus, then you have been chosen to represent King Jesus as a royal priest, and to glorify Him in the way you live. He wants His priests to make a difference in the lives of others so that ultimately, they too will desire to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. If you want to be an effective priest, then ‘it’s time to leave elementary teaching about Christ and go to maturity.’ (Hebrews 6:1) It is time to accept your responsibilities as a chosen child of God, and become an effective priest on God’s team. It’s time for action; time to stop playing games; time to REPRESENT THE KING.
